If you know someone who you believe deserves to be recognised for their contribution to our community through their volunteering efforts, you can nominate them for the Boroondara Volunteer of the Year Award. 

Nominations

Nominations for the 2021 Boroondara volunteer of the Year Awards closed on Friday 9 October 2020.

There were three categories to submit a nomination for:

  • 2021 Boroondara Volunteer of the Year
  • COVID-19: Outstanding Local Hero
  • COVID-19: Outstanding Innovative Program

Winners were announced on Thursday 3 December 2020 at an International Volunteer Day celebration. Visit our Citizens and volunteer awards page to learn more about the winners. 

Selection criteria

For the awards for 2021 Boroondara Volunteer of the Year and COVID-19: Outstanding Local Hero, the nominee must be an Australian citizen who lives in, and volunteers for, a community organisation in the City of Boroondara.

For the award for COVID-19: Outstanding Innovative Program, the program or service must be volunteer involving, not-for-profit and based in the City of Boroondara and benefit those who live, work and play in the city.

2021 Boroondara Volunteer of the Year

Nominate a volunteer for their achievements with a local community organisation. Consider:

  • benefit and impact of the nominee’s volunteering to the community, as well as achievements
  • attributes, skills and experience of the nominee
  • history and range of volunteering activities undertaken by the nominee
  • the extent to which the nominees has balanced their volunteering activity in addition to family, work and other commitments
  • the challenges and complexities associated with their volunteering activities

COVID- 19: Outstanding Local Hero 

Nominate a volunteer for their efforts through the COVID-19 pandemic. Consider:

  • benefit and impact of the nominee’s volunteering to the community in response to COVID-19
  • attributes, skills and experience of the nominee
  • the extent to which the nominees has balanced their volunteering activity in addition to family, work and other commitments
  • the challenges and complexities associated with their volunteering activities

COVID-19: Outstanding Innovative Program

Nominate a local community organisation for their innovative response to supporting people through the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • how the organisation responded innovatively to support the community during the pandemic
  • benefit and impact of the organisation’s response to the community
  • the challenges and complexities associated with establishing or adapting a program in response to the pandemic
