Hard rubbish
An annual hard rubbish collection is provided for residents to dispose of waste not usually accepted.
2011 hard waste collection
This collection will take place over a four-week period between Monday 24 October and Friday 18 November.
You will receive a brochure in your letterbox about two weeks prior to the collection in your neighbourhood, advising of the collection week. The brochure will list what items will and will not be collected, and how the material must be placed on the nature strip.
Check what your collection week will be.
Ensure that rubbish is ready for collection before 6am on the Monday of your collection week and that no vehicles are parked in front of materials to be collected. Hard waste placed out late will not be collected. This could take place anytime during that week.
Scavenging and dumping is illegal.
Three piles
Place your rubbish out into three piles:
- general hard waste
- mattresses
- metals.
During the hard waste collection, different trucks collect the waste, as the materials are taken to different processing facilities.
By placing your hard waste into separate piles of scrap metal, mattresses and other waste, you can help the recycling collection process.
What to put out
What can be included in the hard rubbish collection?
Wherever possible, materials are recycled, reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.
The materials accepted include:
- whitegoods - including washing machines, fridges and dishwashers - for safety reasons doors should be removed from fridges and freezers
- wood - not including fencing
- disused household appliances
- furniture
- small car parts.
To minimise local amenity issues, hard waste should be placed out for collection no more than one week prior to your scheduled collection day. Materials left out for collection must not exceed 1.5 metres in length. Scrap metal will be collected separately for recycling.
What cannot be included
- green waste
- building materials
- builders- rubble or debris from renovations
