Cr Parke resides in Balwyn North and works at his legal practice in Hawthorn. He was elected to represent Bellevue Ward in October 2012 and serves as a member of the Audit Committee and the Management Performance Review Committee. Cr Parke served two terms as a councillor on the Toowoomba City Council, prior to relocating to Melbourne in 2005. During his service as a councillor in Toowoomba, he chaired the Works Committee during his first term and both the Economic Development Committee and the Audit Committee during his second term.
Strongly community-minded, Jim Parke is the only Australian to ever hold the office of President of Crime Stoppers International. He has also previously served as Chairman of Crime Stoppers Australia, Chairman of Crime Stoppers Queensland, President of the Victims of Crime Association of Queensland and Deputy Chairman of Volunteering Australia. He is a past President of the Victorian Division of the Institute of Mercantile Agents.
Cr Jim Parke is admitted as a practitioner of the Supreme Courts of Queensland, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory and of the High Court of Australia and the High Court of New Zealand. He holds the degrees of Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology and a Master of Jurisprudence from Bond University. He also holds a Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety, a Diploma of Security and Risk Management, a Diploma of Government (Investigation) and a Diploma of Education and Training.
