History and role of the School Focused Youth Service

Established in 1998, the SFYS is part of the Victorian Government's response to the recommendations of the Victorian Suicide Task Force and is funded by Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. In Boroondara, the SFYS Coordinator position is auspiced by the City of Boroondara and sits within Council's Youth Services team.

It is the role of the SFYS Coordinator to:

  • identify gaps in local service provision and develop strategies to fill these gaps
  • develop resources for schools and the community sector
  • share information on locally available services and best practice programs
  • use brokerage funding to support initiatives between schools and community services.

The program is overseen by a local advisory group and is available to all primary and secondary schools located in Boroondara.
