School readiness - information for parents
A free information session for parents of young children on the many and varied issues surrounding school readiness.
All parents want the best for their children, and there are many things to consider when deciding whether a child will be ready for school.
This session will provide:
- Support in deciding whether your child will be ready for school
- Information on what to expect at school
- Advice on choosing a school
- Preparing your child for school – and preparing a school for your child!

About the presenter: Claire Vellios, Education Consultant
Claire (pictured) has extensive teaching experience in early childhood and primary sectors including kindergarten, childcare and special education. In recent years she has lectured in early childhood at University of Melbourne and Swinburne University.
In 2005, Claire completed a Masters of Special/Inclusive Education research degree at University of Melbourne investigating auditory processing and language development in preschool aged children. She is currently completing a Doctor of Education at the University of Melbourne, focusing on the development of emotional intelligence in children.
Claire also owns and manages an early childhood service.

In 2009, the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development published this document, which forms part of an initiative designed to support Victorian children and their families to have a positive experience during this important milestone of learning and development.
