A local Scooter User Group has been established in Boroondara that advocates for people with mobility issues including our ageing population and people with disabilities.

The group will provide advice, information and guidance to Boroondara residents and visitors and build sustainable social connections with the various clubs, groups and networks in the region.

The user group will lead the planning of future events, forums and Come'N Try workshops that advocate for people with mobility issues and local community services including public transport providers.

The user group will liaise with Council services, staff and regulatory bodies about:

  • access issues
  • safe usage on our footpaths
  • public transport use
  • local laws
  • the RECHARGE scheme
  • product information and review
  • universal access requirements
  • mobility maps and accessible location guides.

Since the implementation  of the RECHARGE scheme in 2010, people with mobility issues living in Boroondara has highlighted the increased usage of Motorised Mobility Devices (MMD) throughout Victoria and in our local community.

Membership is open to any person who uses a mobility device, including motorised scooters, electric wheelchairs and power chairs, as well as people who use canes or crutches and those who require assistance animals.

Ms Simone Pilens is the volunteer team leader of SWAT. Simone can be contacted on 0410 576 596 or via email
