Suitable for picnics, dog walking, large events, children's play and sports such as AFL and cricket.

Anderson Park has large areas of open space. The park offers a pavilion and 2 sportsgrounds with synthetic cricket pitches.

Terraced steps around one side of the grounds are ideal for watching sport or relaxing.

Please note: the Anderson Park Community Hub renewal is now underway, due to be completed in mid to late-2023. Auburn South Preschool will continue operating onsite during the works. Limited car parking is available outside the building entrance, and temporary traffic changes may be introduced as needed. The public toilets at the building are closed, but public toilets at the nearby Tennis Pavilion remain open.

Playground

The extensive playground is set on 3 levels. It includes:

  • wave slides
  • climbing walls
  • a rope walkway
  • a long flying fox.

There is angle parking on Anderson Road. The venue is 600 m from the number 72 tram stop on Burke Road and 2 km from Kooyong train station.

About the gardens

Anderson Park is a hidden gem in the heart of Hawthorn with majestic heritage trees and terrific views of the city.

Boroondara bought Anderson Park in November 1911. The 5.6 hectare block was originally part of a plant nursery known as the Mount Ida Estate.
