Personal involvement

Throughout the year there are several ways to become more involved with the environment in Boroondara.

Friends groups

  • a primary way of becoming involved with your local environment is to join a Friends group.

Foundation Boroondara

  • Another way to make a difference is to donate to Foundation Boroondara via their Plant a Tree - Grow a Child program to assist a child to attend kindergarten.
  • Donations are tax deductible and for donations of $100 or more a tree will be planted in a local park with a label attached.

Events

Join in one of the national or local environmental events held throughout the year. Details will be available prior to each event - visit our Events calendar:

  • Arbor Week - an opportunity for schools and community centres to learn through action - in June each year
  • National Tree Day - Sunday 31 July 2011 (Schools Tree Day - Friday 29 July 2011) - National Tree Day gives all Australians an opportunity to get involved with their local environment by planting indigenous trees, shrubs and grasses in local schools and parks.
  • Walk & Talk series - discover the hidden natural wonders in Boroondara with free tours, activities and presentations held from September to November each year.

Indigenous plants

Indigenous plants can be successfully used In your garden to suit a wide variety of purposes and will assist in conserving water and reducing maintenance costs as they will rarely require additional fertilisers, soil or water.

Boroondara's parks and reserves
