Winter Sports Club Forum

Social media guidelines

Sporting clubs' social media presence is up to individual clubs to manage. It is important to give your members a clear idea of their responsibilities when using social media in a club environment. The following information may help form the basis of your club's social media guidelines or policy.

Smoke-free areas at sporting facilities

Earlier this year, the City of Boroondara passed the new Smoke-free Areas Local Law 2012, which prohibits smoking on various areas of Council-owned land.

This new local law will have an impact on your club and where smoking is allowed in your club's facilities.

Please be aware that smoking is now prohibited within ten metres of:

  • sporting club houses and pavilions
  • sportsgrounds and playing surfaces whilst they are in use
  • children's playground equipment, barbeques and picnic tables.

Sports Club Resource Guide

This guide is for Sports Clubs that lease a Council facility, it is your 'one stop shop' to understanding Council services and processes to assist you to manage, maintain and operate the facility that you lease.

The guide also includes a club development section to provide administrators with key best practice principles and links on where to find further information. Although the guide has primarily been developed to assist clubs that lease a Council facility, much of the information provided is relevant to all clubs.
