Junction Skate and BMX Park

Location: 387 Riversdale Road, Hawthorn East (Melway 59 H1).
Junction Skate and BMX Park is a youth focused facility where families, children and the whole community can get active. The facility opened in November 2000 and was resurfaced in 2011. The park consists of a double spine bowl and street course. The facility opens from dawn until dusk and is managed by the YMCA on behalf of the City of Boroondara. Our aim is to provide a safe, vibrant and welcoming environment for all.
Public transport access: tram 70 or 75 to stop 38 (Hastings Street).

Staffed hours of operation
Staff are on hand during staffed hours of operation to ensure the facility is maintained and supervised to appropriate standards. All staff are trained in first aid and will provide assistance if you are injured or in emergency situations. In the incidence of wet or extreme weather please note the facility will be closed.

Please note the facility is not staffed on weekdays between 1 June and the 31 August.
Programs and lessons - bookings essential
Learn to Ride
Come and try a free lesson available for beginner skateboarders, BMX or scooter riders most weekends. These programs are introductory based session to get you rolling and using the facility safely. For more information: view Learn to Ride brochure.
Private or Group Lessons
Regular skate, BMX or scooter lessons can be booked during staffed hours of operation at Junction Skate BMX Park. View Private and group session brochure.
School Holiday Programs
The YMCA are now conducting school holiday learn to ride sessions for skaters, BMX and scooter riders every day of the school holidays. These lessons are fun based and are a great way to learn new skills and tricks. Skateboards and safety gear supplied. View School Holiday Program brochure.
School Programs
The YMCA conducts primary and secondary school action sports programs at Junction Skate and BMX Park or within schools in the municipality of Boroondara. We supply all the coaches, lessons and safety equipment needed. The programs focus on skate, BMX and Scooters safety and skill development. View School Program brochure.
Youth development programs - gain skills and experience
Skate Park Operations
As a Skate Park Operations Volunteer, you will gain skills and knowledge about the day to day management of Junction Skate and BMX Park. Junction staff will help you to develop skills in customer service, risk management, marketing, leading other volunteers and help you to get ready for the workplace.
Competition Laboratory
Competition Laboratory helps young people gain qualifications and skills to develop and run events at Junction Skate and BMX Park. Based on the youth participation model, young people are central to the development and management of skate park related projects.
360 Degree Leadership Program
Do you want a career in youth work? Through the 360 Degree Leadership Program, Junction staff support and assist volunteers to obtain a Certificate III in Youth Work from Swinburne University.

Birthday Parties
Birthday party sessions are available – includes BBQ, marquee and a one hour learn to ride workshop. For more information on costs view lessons brochure.

Hill 'n' Dale BMX Park

Location: Summerhill Road, Glen Iris (Melway 60 B7).
Hill 'n' Dale BMX Park is a youth and family focused facility with a twin course of bumps with a rubberised surface suited to a range of skill levels. Please note that it is a non-supervised facility open from dawn to dusk.
Public transport access: bus route or train to Ashburton.
Markham Reserve hard surface play space

Location: Victory Boulevard, Ashburton (Melway 60 E12).
Markham Reserve hard surface play space includes three small ramps and a fun box, located within the new developed playground which opened in 2011. The space is suitable for beginner BMX, scooter and skateboard riders.
Public transport access: train to Alamein station.
