Boroondara is home to many facilities and services offering recreation services accessible to all people in our community.

Free Come and Try Day - Dandenong Showgrounds

On Sunday 4 March 2012, one of the biggest all abilities inclusive sporting and recreation events will take place at the Dandenong Showgrounds. This is a Free Come and Try Day with a huge range of recreation and sporting activities for people of all ages and abilities to try out.

The Dandenong Showgrounds are easily accessible from Yarraman Railway Station via the East Link Walking and Cycling Track and Dandenong railway station.This year there will be swish, Blind Cricket and Blind Archery for you to try out your skills. Who knows, you could be a budding William Tell with a bow and arrow in your hand or a prospective Sir Donald Bradman.
 
Blind Sports Victoria will have an information stand on site and they would be more than happy to help you get involved in sporting and recreation activities.

Disability sport taken to the extreme!

The Department of Disability Sport and Recreation is taking disability sport to the extreme when it introduces the first ever multi-adrenalin raising sports program for Victorians with disabilities. A total of four exhilarating activities will be available, including skydiving, surfing, skiing and kayaking.

The program is open to all levels of ability and participants can register for the series of four events or register for individual events only.

Wheelchair basketball

This program encourages people with disabilities to get actively involved in wheelchair basketball by providing access to accredited coaches and sports equipment in a fun and positive social environment.

2012 YMCA weekend escapes for adults with a disability

We all need to escape sometimes. It helps us to relax, have fun and recharge our batteries. YMCA Weekend Escapes aims to do just this by providing weekend residential camping program for adults with a disability in modern, accessible facilities.

Dates for 2012:

  • 30 March to 1 April - Phillip Island (Coastal Discovery Camp)
  • 28 June to 1 July - Falls Creek (Howmans Gap)
  • 31 August to 2 September - Mt Evelyn Recreation Camp
  • 30 November to 2 December - Anglesea Recreation Camp
