Crime rate

Boroondara’s offence rate in 2007-08 was considerably lower than the Victorian average with 4,499 offences committed per 100,000 residents compared to 7,186 for Victoria.

The most prevalent crimes in Boroondara in 2007-08 were:

  • thefts from motor vehicles (1,648 offences)
  • property damage (1,174 offences)
  • residential burglary (1,049 offences)
  • theft (other) (985 offences).

The offence rate for all of these crimes decreased from the previous year, with rates of property damage and burglary (residential) decreasing by a fifth (22.4% and 20.8% respectively).

Road safety

In 2008, Boroondara had the highest number of bicyclist involved in serious accidents within the Eastern Metropolitan Region and the third highest in Melbourne (after Melbourne City and Yarra).
