Friends groups

Join, or start a new, local Friends group in your community and help your local environment.

We're actively working with local Friends groups in the restoration and protection of remnant indigenous vegetation at sites such as Welfare Parade, Ashburton and to revegetate important natural areas such as the Yarra River frontage and Gardiners Creek.

Friends of Ashburton Forest

This group has arisen out of the Backyard Biodviersity project and is working on local revegetation projects.

Friends of Back Creek

This group works along Back Creek between Cornell Street and Riversdale Road, Camberwell, controlling weeds and escaped garden pest plants and revegetating with indigenous riparian species.

Friends of Back Creek South

This group works along Back Creek between Toorak Road and Denman Avenue, Camberwell, controlling weeds and escaped garden pest plants and revegetating with indigenous riparian species. They generally meet on the second Sunday each month, 10am to 12pm.

Friends of Burke Road Billabong

This group works to re-establish indigenous vegetation at the Burke Road Billabong site. They generally meet on the second Friday monthly from 9am to 1pm.

Friends of Gardiners Creek Valley

This group works between Winton Road and Great Valley Road to reduce weed and exotic species and re-establish indigenous flora and fauna habitat along Gardiners Creek in Glen Iris. They meet every Wednesday from 10am to 12pm from April to October and 9am to 11am from November to March.

Friends of Koonung Creek Reserve

This group was created in early 2011 to foster community involvement in and appreciation of the Koonung Creek Reserve (between Bulleen and Doncaster roads, Balwyn North).  The committee meets on the second Wednesday of each month.

Friends of South Surrey Park  

This group works in South Surrey Park to enhance the attractiveness of the park and to improve native habitat and the condition of the creek. THey meet on the last Sunday each month from 10am to 12pm and the first Wednesday each month from 11am to 1pm.

Friends of Walmer Street

This group works to restore the riverine environment in Walmer Street  and land between Young Street and the footbridge in Kew. They meet every Wednesday from 10am to 12pm and the on the first Saturday each month from 2pm to 4pm.

Friends of Wurundjeri - Hawthorn Historical Society

This group works on the banks of the Yarra in Wurundjeri Gardens, Glan Avon Road, Hawthorn to re-establish indigenous plants and represent Aboriginal food plants and materials. They meet on the first Tuesday each month from 10am to 12pm.
