In the warmer months we run bicycle skills courses for Boroondara residents aged 18 or older.
These courses are designed to support both beginner riders and more experienced riders to ride safely whether on roads or shared paths.
Riding with your Kids course
This half day course is for parents who would like to refresh their riding skills. Based on the Bike Ed Assistant course, this course aims to give parents the right skills and knowledge to ride with their children and teach them how to safely ride their bike.
The course covers:
- equipment and safety checks
- riding in different environments
- basic riding skills
- gears and breaking
- skill development in children.
When: Saturday 2 March 2013
Time: 9.30am to 1.30pm (includes 20 minute break)
Where: Weekend courses will be held at carpark outside Camberwell Council Offices, 8 Inglesby Road. Weekday locations still to be determined. Facilitator: Wilcare Services.
Note: Participants must bring their own bicycle in good working condition, helmet and closed toe footwear. Morning tea provided. The course is for adults only.

Back on your bike course
This half day beginner course is for new bike riders or those that have not ridden for a many years.
The course covers:
- basic bike handling skills
- choosing, setting up and adjusting your bike
- safety checks
- starting and stopping
- breaking and using gears effectively
- turning and balance.
When: Sunday 3 March 2013
Time: 9am to 1pm (includes 20 minute break)

CycleWise course
This intermediate course is for bike riders that want to improve their confidence on the road and ability to negotiate traffic.
The course covers:
- setting up your bike and safety checks
- avoiding hazards on the roads
- route planning
- visibility and intersections
- changing lanes, turning and roundabouts
- scanning, signalling and emergency stopping.
When: Sunday 11 November, Sunday 13 Jan 2013, Sunday 3 March 2013.
Time: 10am to 3pm (includes 30 minute break)
Where: Carpark outside Camberwell Council Offices, 8 Inglesby Road. Includes an on road ride in the Camberwell and Hawthorn area. Facilitator: Bikes @ Work.
Note: participants must bring their own bicycle in good working condition, helmet and closed toe footwear. Light lunch is provided.
