Plan released for $7m upgrade in Ashburton
18 January 2012
A planning concept for a $7 million upgrade of the Ashburton Library and adjacent Community Centre in High Street will soon be released for public comment.
During March and April last year, Council consulted with residents, library and community centre users and traders on the planned upgrade.
Almost 800 people shared their ideas through workshops, surveys and meetings on how an upgraded library and community centre could serve the community in the future.
Council and an architectural firm worked with the findings from this consultation to develop a concept plan, which will be released later this month.
"This exciting project will modernise the Ashburton Library and Community Centre," Solway Ward Councillor Kevin Chow said.
"We are upgrading the space available to the community, as well as retaining important aspects such as a significant tree and natural bush vegetation, a playground and parking," Cr Chow said.
"I urge everyone - especially those who participated in our consultation process last year - to have a look at the concept plans and let us know your thoughts."
The concept plan will be on display at the Ashburton Library and Ashburton Community Centre from Monday 23 January to Friday 17 February.
Feedback forms will be available on site during this time.
You can also view the concept plan and provide feedback online during the consultation period.
