Tribute to former Mayor and Councillor

4 January 2012

A former Camberwell Mayor and Councillor, Eric Risstrom, has died.

The late Mr Risstrom served as a councillor of the City of Camberwell from 1963 to 1974 and during this time, was elected Mayor of Camberwell in 1970 to 1971.

Mr Risstrom was re-elected as a councillor at the City of Boroondara in 1996, and he served until he retired in 2003.

Mayor of Boroondara, Councillor Heinz Kreutz said Mr Risstrom's contribution to the community, in local government and beyond, was immense.

"Three of us, newly-elected in 2002 and now Boroondara's longest serving councillors – Coral Ross, Jack Wegman and myself – had the distinct privilege of working with Eric until his retirement in 2003," Cr Kreutz said.

"Eric's experience, wisdom and gentle persistence served us well.

"His avuncular advice was priceless and his endearing sense of justice and fairness unsurpassed.

"I think it was Churchill who said that we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

"Eric's contribution will not be forgotten and we thank him for it," Cr Kreutz said.
