Get started on your sustainability journey

The City of Boroondara will be showcasing all things sustainable at its fifth Sustainable Living Festival on Saturday 18 February.

Taking place in conjunction with the popular Boroondara Farmers Market, this year's festival will feature an array of stallholders who will give advice on how residents can make fun, hands-on and important changes to everyday habits that can have a lasting impact on the environment.

Mayor of Boroondara, Councillor Heinz Kreutz is passionate about maintaining our natural environment and encourages local residents to visit the Sustainable Living Festival to learn how their actions can have a tangible impact.

"Council continues to receive strong community support for our integrated approach to sustainable living and our biennial Sustainable Living Festival provides a highlight for Council and its communities to celebrate our achievements and put on display exciting and clever initiatives," Cr Kreutz said.

"Albert Einstein once said 'problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them' and our festival is a key awareness-raising event on our calendar."

Visitors will have the opportunity to talk to experts from a variety of sustainability fields, including demonstrations on the following topics:

  • worm farming
  • keeping chickens at home
  • backyard beekeeping
  • growing your own produce
  • backyard biodiversity.

Passionate zoologist Chris Humfrey and his Wild Action crew will also be there on the day, giving visitors the chance to get up close and personal with an amazing collection of Australian native animals.

Sam and Rob from Council's Recycling and eWaste team will also be on hand to talk to people about the importance of recycling, and girls and boys can even have their photo taken with them next to a side loader waste truck.

In addition to these interesting activities, visitors will be able to choose from the usual delicious, farm-fresh produce on offer at the Boroondara Farmers Market.

When: 8am to 1pm, Saturday 18 February
