Singing and dancing with our seniors
27 August 2010
City of Boroondara and a number of local senior citizens clubs will be presenting a Song and Dance Spectacular as part of the Boroondara Combined Senior Citizens' Concert.
The annual event, on Sunday 29 August, will see clubs and older adults come together to share in an afternoon of fun and friendship, song and dance.
Entertainment provided on the day will feature an exciting mix of performances, with a multi-cultural theme including vocal and instrumental music, salsa, cha cha and tango dancing, and Afro-Cuban choreography.
The special event acknowledges and celebrates the contribution our older adults make to our community and offers them an opportunity to celebrate and get involved, promote interclub initiatives and new activities, hear health and wellbeing messages and learn about Council's Positive Ageing Strategy – Creating an Age Friendly Boroondara.
City of Boroondara has 27 senior citizens clubs with members from a range of diverse cultural backgrounds. Senior citizens clubs provide older residents with an opportunity to develop companionship and connection with others in the community and with Council. It also gives them a chance to enjoy activities in a safe, familiar and comfortable environment while sharing common interests.
The Kew Seniors Stepping Out Program is supporting this event with sponsorship for performers and provision of transport to and from the event.
Cotham Ward Councillor, David Bloom will formally welcome invited guests to the event which will be held at 1pm at Hawthorn Town Hall.
The Song and Dance Spectacular is one of many social events hosted by Council.
