Boroondara appoints new CEO

23 December 2011

Boroondara Council has appointed Mr Phillip Storer to lead the organisation into 2012 and beyond as announced by Boroondara Mayor, Councillor Heinz Kreutz.

“Phillip Storer has been appointed following a rigorous and fair selection process involving a large field of many talented candidates,” says Cr Kreutz. "Council is pleased to have such an exceptional person accept the position and take on what is a vital role for the people of Boroondara."

Mr Storer holds qualifications in town planning and was Boroondara's first Director of Infrastructure. Following five years in that role Mr Storer returned to his roots and became the Director of City Planning. Mr Storer has advised Council on a number of challenging projects including Camberwell Railway Station, Toroonga Village Redevelopment, Camberwell Structure Plan and master plans for the City's parks and gardens.

In accepting the new role Mr Storer expressed his commitment to the Boroondara community and outlined his leadership focus.

"It is such an honour to accept this appointment. I love this City and its passionate and engaged community. We have great team here at Boroondara and I will focus my efforts on leading a culture of responsiveness, innovation and continuous improvement delivering value for Council and the community," said Mr Storer.

Cr Kreutz acknowledges the strong internal leadership talent.

“In light of the strong field of candidates who applied for the CEO’s role, this internal promotion clearly illustrates the high calibre of professionals who work for the City of Boroondara,” says Cr Kreutz.

“Mr Storer has exceptional experience in local government, he is a local resident and has demonstrated a long standing commitment to the City through his 20-plus years of service. We are particularly pleased that Mr Storer comes from within our organisation’s ranks. He brings to the role a sound understanding of the needs and aspirations of the people of this City and the opportunities and challenges Boroondara faces. We would like to thank the many applicants for their interest in our City and the effort reflected in their submissions."

Mr Storer will begin his new role on 4 February when current CEO Dr Dale, takes up her new position as CEO of a national not-for-profit organisation that assists people with depression and mental health issues.

"We are grateful to Dr Dale for her excellent contribution to Boroondara and I am pleased that her new role continues her commitment to community service," says Cr Kreutz.

"Dr Dale leaves a legacy of an engaged, collaborative and innovative organization. Her achievements are many but two highlights are the seamless delivery of several major infrastructure projects and the improved protection of our urban amenity through the strengthening of our local planning scheme.

Dr Dale has represented local government on advisory groups and boards including the state library, the sustainability accord, IPAA and the Melbourne Metropolitan Strategy working group and is a published author on planning in local government."
