Hawthorn Craft Market at new location

17 February 2012

The popular Hawthorn Craft Market is relocating to The Atrium at Swinburne University while its traditional venue, the Hawthorn Town Hall is being redeveloped. The first market at the new venue is on Sunday 4 March.

While the setting may be changing, the outstanding selection of handmade products certainly isn’t, with a variety of high-quality fashion, jewellery and home décor on offer on the first Sunday of each month from March to December.

Glenferrie Ward Councillor Phil Meggs said the craft market's new home is still conveniently located in the heart of Hawthorn.

"The new Hawthorn Craft Market venue is a stone's throw from its former location, so craft lovers and bargain hunters will still have easy access to the much-loved local makers' market," Cr Meggs said.

"Since 1979, craft lovers from Boroondara and beyond have been flocking to the Hawthorn Craft Market and I am sure it will continue to flourish at Swinburne University."

The Atrium at Swinburne University can be accessed through either William or John streets, and is within walking distance from Glenferrie Station. Street parking also available surrounding the new venue.

The Hawthorn Town Hall is set to be upgraded as Boroondara's premier arts and cultural centre, with a larger gallery, improved main hall, restoration of the facade and new rehearsal and workshop spaces. New technical facilities will ensure the iconic heritage building is equipped for 21st century requirements.

The last event at the Town Hall before it is closed for redevelopment is the Camberwell Rotary Art Show in March. The building is expected to reopen in late 2013.
