Boroondara rolls out smart cycling course
14 December 2011
City of Boroondara is running a free cycle safety course for regular riders on Saturday 21 January.
Cyclewise is a half-day course designed for intermediate level cyclists who want to build their confidence in riding.
Participants learn tips and tricks for riding on the road, including route planning, avoiding hazards, and how to deal with tricky intersections.
Mayor of Boroondara, Councillor Heinz Kreutz encouraged residents to take advantage of the course, especially riders who cycled on busy roads.
"Rider safety is very important, especially now with more people making a positive change to ride to work," Cr Kreutz said.
"You should feel just as confident riding through a high traffic area like the Camberwell Junction as you would in a quiet neighbourhood street."
Cr Kreutz said the course would also benefit people who made it their new year's resolution to ride more regularly.
"Cycling is one of the best ways to keep fit and travel sustainably. Hopefully, this course will give more residents the confidence to take up the activity." Cr Kreutz said.
There are limited vacancies for this course, but for more information, visit the Cyclewise page or call 9278 4542.
