Enter the 21st Boroondara Eisteddfod
17 February 2012
Talented musicians and drama students have until Monday 19 March to enter the Boroondara Eisteddfod, one of Melbourne's most prestigious performing arts competitions.
The Eisteddfod's competitive sections will see musicians vie for a share of $12,000 in prize money in categories including pianoforte, vocal, instrumental (strings, woodwind and brass), ensembles, choral and speech and drama.
Cotham Ward Councillor, and former Melbourne Symphony Orchestra flautist, David Bloom has a keen interest in classical music and has served on the Eisteddfod Advisory Committee since joining Council in 2008.
"The Boroondara Eisteddfod presents talented local musicians with an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience and be judged by experts in the field," Cr Bloom said.
"It is a tremendous stepping stone for young musicians, and I always look forward to being involved in this worthwhile event.
"I urge the many talented local performers to grasp this unique opportunity with both hands and enter this year's Boroondara Eisteddfod."
Each year, the Boroondara Eisteddfod attracts more than 2,500 entrants and about 50,000 have taken to stage since the first competition in 1992.
The 21st Boroondara Eisteddfod will also host three premier sections from 23 April to 17 June:
- the Boroondara Piano Concerto Award
- the Robert Salzer Vocal Championship
- the Margaret and Murray Sharp Chamber Music Award.
Interested residents can enter by checking the Eisteddfod information page or by phoning Arts and Culture on 9278 4770.
