The Boroondara Literary Awards was founded in 1999 between partners Leader Newspapers, the Rotary Club of Balwyn and the City of Boroondara.
The Awards offers the chance to receive cash awards in two sections. A prize pool of over $2,000 is available in the Young Writers section, with close to $3,000 available in the Open Short Story section.
Winning entries will be published in the annual anthology Word You Up.
Young Writers section
Includes poetry and prose categories for young people who live, work or study in Boroondara. Find out more.

Is a national competition inviting literary works between 1,500 and 3,000 words from writers across the country. Find out more.
Judges for the 2014 Boroondara Literary Awards will be announced in April 2014.
The personal information collected on the entry form will be used by City of Boroondara for purposes of the Boroondara Literary Awards.
Council will not disclose this information unless specifically required by law or with the entrant’s consent.
The entrant or the entrant’s parent or guardian may apply to Council for access to and/or correction of the personal information collected. Such requests should be made to the Literary Awards Coordinator or Council’s Privacy Officer.
Where a prize-winning entry is published as permitted under the Awards’ conditions, the author’s name and state of residence (or school if applicable) will also be published by way of accreditation unless the author or the author’s parent or guardian advises in writing that he/she or they do not wish to have the name published. No further information will be disclosed without consent.
