Empire Day at Beckett Park 1948.

Beckett Park

Beckett Park adjoining Maranoa Gardens boasts one of the highest points in Metropolitan Melbourne.  Formerly known as One Tree Hill, Beckett Park’s stone tower still commands views across Melbourne to distant Mt Macedon.

Originally grassy woodland, Beckett Park has been lovingly restored to one of Council’s more important re-vegetation sites of indigenous species.  Visitors will be able to walk through little patches of grassy woodlands similar to that which would have been there more than 100 years ago.

In the 1940's & 50's Beckett Park was a traditional site for Empire Day bonfires.

Beckett Park is open to foot traffic at all times, however, please note that  the gate to the carpark and toilets are only open between dawn and dusk.  The adjoining Maranoa Gardens (see Maranoa Gardens page) are open Eastern Standard time weekdays 7.30 am to 4 pm Sat, Sun & Public Holidays 1pm to 5pm;  Daylight saving time weekdays 7.30 am to 4pm, Saturdays 12 noon to 6 pm, Sundays & Public Holidays 10am to 6 pm.

Beckett Park features, indigenous re-vegetation areas, a viewing tower, a war memorial, broad open space with picnic tables and seating, an adventure playground and toilets (open dawn to dusk).
