Arts and Cultural Strategy

The City of Boroondara has commissioned a new Arts and Cultural Strategy for the City as part of its commitment to enhancing community, family and cultural life. The report was prepared in April 2008 by Geografia Pty Ltd, following a period of community input.

The focus of the strategy is to define the role of the Council in promoting and supporting arts and cultural activities in Boroondara. It also explores ways in which existing public facilities can be used as centres for a range of activities, from theatre and dance performances through to cultural festivals, arts workshops, exhibitions of new media and the heritage collection.

Council has endorsed the completed Strategy for community consulation. The consultation period will end on 8 August 2008, after which the draft Strategy will be reviewed in the light of feedback received before proceeding to Council to consider its adoption.

The draft Strategy can be downloaded from the link below either as the full report (180 pages) or as an Executive Summary (17 pages). Hard copies are available for reference from Council’s five libraries, (Click here for more information on Library locations in Boroondara) and customer service centres at Hawthorn and Camberwell.

As the consultation proceeds, further information will become available, including dates of public meetings where the Strategy will be explained. A feedback response form will be available by early June for those who wish to respond directly.
