Green Waste
A fortnightly collection service for your green waste was introduced by the City of Boroondara in November 1998.
See the link below to find out when your Green Waste is collected.
To receive a green waste bin and take part in the service, please complete the Green Waste Bin order form below. The cost of purchasing a green waste bin is $95. If you already have a 240-litre bin with an orange lid and require a second bin, the second "PRELOVED" bin is available for a reduce fee of $50.
Once collected, your green waste is taken to a processing plant and converted into compost, mulch or soil additives and enhancers. Mulch is available for sale from the Boroondara Transfer Station.
For Occupational Health and Safety reasons, green waste will not be collected in owner-provided containers, plastic bags, boxes or in bundles. Council will collect green waste from Council bins only.
Bundled green waste
Council no longer collects bundled green waste. However, Council can provide a "pre loved' second bin for residents who have large green waste needs for an additional cost of $50.
An "At Call Green Waste Collection" service is available to enable resident to dispose of large material. For more information about this service see the link below.
Bin placement
Place your green waste bin half a metre away from trees, poles and your household waste and recycling bins. Ensure that the handle of the bin is facing your property.
Place your green waste bin out the night before your collection day and bring it back into your property as soon as possible after collection.
For more information, download the Green Waste Brochure below.
Your other rubbish
As the fortnightly green waste service reduces the amount of rubbish that needs to go in your household waste bin, Council is offering residents smaller household waste bins.
Downsizing your rubbish bin will mean savings. If you trade in your 240-litre bin for a 120-litre bin, you’ll save $262 a year. If you choose an 80-litre bin, you’ll save $369 a year.
You can apply online to downsize your bin below.
The service is an at call service whereby residents will book a collection of bundled green waste.
Mobile bins belong to the City of Boroondara. You can downsize your current bin from a 240-litre to a 120-litre or 80-litre bin.
In February 2007, Council changed the way your green waste is collected.

The City of Boroondara is offering residents with large green waste needs the option of a second, pre-loved green waste bin. At nearly half the price of a new bin, you’ll receive a pre-used mobile bin in good condition.
