Decision & Process Review

Helping to achieve fair and reasonable outcomes for our community

Council is committed to sound decision making principles to ensure fair and reasonable outcomes for the Boroondara community. Council now has an appeals process that enables citizens to request a review of certain decisions and processes.

Please note that decisions on matters such as planning, local laws (including parking fines) and building and health services are not included in this process as they are governed by existing review procedures.

If you would like to request a review of a decision or process, please follow these simple steps:

  • Make contact with the responsible Department Manager by phoning 9278 4444 in the first instance to discuss your concerns and seek a reasonable outcome
  • If you don’t feel that your issue has been fairly addressed by the Department Manager, submit details in writing to the Manager Governance explaining what your concerns are and why you are requesting a review
  • Your dispute will be escalated to the responsible Director, or the Chief Executive Officer if necessary, for resolution. In some instances the Chief Executive Officer may request that an independent, external reviewer be appointed to assist in resolving your issue

For more information on Council's appeals process, please call Manager Governance on 9278 4470 or email review@boroondara.vic.gov.au

If you believe Council has not adequately dealt with your complaint or grievance, you also have the right to complain to the Ombudsman.  The Ombudsman can be contacted in writing at Level 9, 459 Collins Street (North Tower) Melbourne  Victoria  3000, or by phone on 1800 806 314.  Further information is available from the website at www.ombudsman.vic.gov.au
